Our data & methodology
HISA exists to make savings-account rates honest and comparable. Here’s exactly where our numbers come from and how we treat them.
Where the rates come from
We collect rates directly from each bank’s Consumer Data Right (Open Banking) Product Reference Data — the public, government-mandated API every Australian bank must publish. We read the base rate, bonus rate, introductory rate, balance tiers, fees and eligibility straight from the source, and refresh monthly (and within days of each RBA cash-rate decision).
How we handle data quality
Open Banking data isn’t perfect — the ACCC has found banks publish stale or mis-fielded rates. So we don’t trust a single source: we reconcile each headline rate against the bank’s own website, flag records the bank hasn’t updated recently, and version every rate so we can show you when it actually changed. Where the feed is ambiguous, we show the base and bonus components separately rather than a single misleading number.
How we rank
Our default sort is a simple, objective one: by maximum advertised rate. It is not a recommendation and is not influenced by commercial arrangements. We clearly label introductory and conditional rates so the headline can’t mislead.
Independence
This is a demo. In production, any paid or sponsored placement would be clearly labelled and separated from the objective rate sort, consistent with ASIC and ACCC guidance for comparison sites. Rates last refreshed 24 August 2026.
